A series of flags marking the lowest point in Britian where I grew up. Part of a continued exploration into the Cambridgeshire Fens and what it means to live in/visit the lowest point of Britain, mentally and physically, and a landscape altered for agriculture and profit.
.
These were created in response to the flag that was flown after the draining of whittlsea mere in the 19th century, which at one point was the largest inland lake in Southern England. The flag read, "See proudly floats our flag on high, O'er wastes by history renowned. All Hail! The Mere at length is dry. Success had perseverance crowned." Now two metal posts mark the drainage.

I carried out a public flagmaking workshop to mark the works in METAL, Peterborough and the works were featured in a solo exhibition with 'Noticeboard United' in Uffington, curated by Kate Genever.
